Sisterhood Meeting
On February 8th, our School Director, Aviva Panush led a discussion on, “Approaching Prayer from a Woman’s Perspective. Although it was cold outside, twenty-five members of Sisterhood and Hadassah attended the meeting. I’m sure that everyone would agree that the discussion was great. We examined the many facets of prayer and how each of us approaches prayer. It was hard to close the discussion at the end of the evening. My thanks go to Aviva Panush for bringing up issues that many of us had not even thought about prior to our meeting.
Congregational Seder
It’s hard to believe that Passover and spring are just around the corner. Our Congregational Seder will be held on Tuesday, April 3rd at 6:00pm in the Social Hall of Shaarey Zedek. The cost will remain the same as last year at $20 for Adults and $10 for children under 13 years old. As in the past, Regan Johnson is the chair of the event. We are looking for volunteers to help cook and serve. If you can help, please call either Regan Johnson at 349-7119 or Royalyn R. Vert at 323-4355. Send in your reservation form and check soon, as only 100 reservations will be accepted. No walk ins will be allowed.
Sister into Sisterhood
This month our Crafting Club will be meeting on Sunday, March 18th at 11:00am in the Social Hall of Shaarey Zedek. Our Coffee ‘n’ Nosh will be meeting on March 4th at 11:00am at Paneras Restaurant in the Frandor Shopping Center. We are always looking for ways to improve our programs and events. For example, two of our Coffee ‘n’ Nosh events were held at Shaarey Zedek in conjunction with Adult Study sessions led by Aviva Panush. Would you like to see that continue? Also, would you like to see the time/day changed for our Crafting Club? If there are any changes that you would like to see, please contact Royalyn R. Vert.
Constitution Update
The Constitution Committee has been working hard to review and update all of the modifications to our constitution. We hope to have all updates completed by March 5th and copies of the constitution will be available on the table in the Foyer of Shaarey Zedek. Please pick up your copy to review. The Sisterhood Board will meet on March 7th to approve the changes. Then, on Wednesday, March 21st we will meet at 6:30pm for a light dinner in the Social Hall of Shaarey Zedek. Following dinner, there will be a business meeting to review and vote on our constitution. The dinner will be free of charge for Sisterhood members. However, a reservation will be required. If you have any questions, or to make your reservation, please contact Royalyn R. Vert at 323-4355 or Cathy Gorwitz at 332-5239. You may email Royalyn also at LRVERT@MICHCOM.NET.
Journey to Justice
On April 15, 2007, Sisterhood will hold a general meeting, which will include a dairy lunch. After lunch there will be a short business meeting and a viewing of the film, “Journey to Justice”. This film documents the journey of Howard Triest as he fled Germany as a teenager in 1939, served as a machine gunner in the U. S. Army during WWII, and returned to Germany as a translator during the Nuremberg war crimes trial. We are fortunate that one of our Sisterhood members was able to obtain this film for a one-time showing. If you want to learn more about this film, there will be copies of a review of the film in the foyer, or you may Google the title. More information will follow in the April 2007 Commentary
Bakers Needed!!
As you know, Shaarey Zedek will be sponsoring a community wide Antique Appraisal Fair on Sunday, March 25, 2007 from 12:30 to 4:30pm. Sisterhood will be holding a Bake Sale and providing a lunch for a nominal cost. To make our Lunch/Bake Sale a success, we need volunteers. If you can help out, contact Ros Covey at 337-1079. Anyone wishing to donate cookies, brownies, or other baked goods, please bring them to the Temple on Saturday, March 24th between 11:00 and 1:00pm.
B’Shalom,
Royalyn R. Vert
